Shizen Operations provides asset management and Operations and Maintenance services for the solar power projects concluded between Microsoft Corporation and Shizen Energy. Since Shizen Engineering is responsible for the development and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of two of these sites, the entire Shizen Energy Group is able to deliver seamless, end-to-end services.
Iwakuni Yuu Solar Power Plant
- Generation capacity
- 23,490 kW
- Location
- Yamaguchi Prefecture
- Start of operation
- July 2021
Tokyo Gas Group and Shizen Energy Group completed a large-scale solar power plant connected to the first extra high voltage power transmission line on a former golf course site. juwi Shizen Energy (currently Shizen Engineering) handled the EPC and also carried out the redevelopment of aging drainage facilities. In addition to periodic inspections of sediment basins and patrolling and clearing vegetation along power transmission lines, cooperation from local residents supports stable operation and rapid response to any issues.
Ozu Solar Power Plant
- Generation capacity
- 34,007 kW
- Location
- Kumamoto Prefecture
- Start of operation
- 2019
This is an extra high voltage solar power plant with a nine-kilometer transmission line. Shizen Energy Group provided fully integrated services, covering development, EPC, and O&M. Located on a gently sloping mountainside with excellent solar irradiation, the site is subject to systematic vegetation control to prevent power generation loss due to shading by weeds. Frequent dredging is also carried out to ensure that drainage does not adversely affect surrounding rivers.
Drainage Improvement Works / Greening
- Location
- Kyushu region
At this solar power plant, which is installed on “Masado” (decomposed granite), a soil type characteristic of the Kyushu region, sediment runoff had occurred beyond the site boundary, resulting in complaints. Masado is a sandy soil with good drainage but is easily washed away by rainfall, and vegetation had long failed to take root. Shizen Operations resolved these issues by improving the malfunctioning drainage system and implementing a greening method effective in preventing soil erosion (Poly-Soil greening), thereby addressing the problem.

Shizen Operations has been entrusted by Nozomi Energy Co., Ltd. with asset management for a solar power plant portfolio of approximately 300 MW, covering 12 projects with a total capacity of 312 MW. In awarding this contract, the client valued not only Shizen Operations’ capabilities in financial aspects such as cash flow management and lender relations but also for our ability to provide detailed technical asset management services. These include optimization of operation management, repairs at appropriate timing through performance management and quantification of generation losses, and proposals for repowering.
Joint Acquisition of 12 Floating Solar Power Plants
- Generation Capacity
- Total 18,614 kW
- Location
- Shikoku, Kansai, Chugoku, and Chubu regions
- Start of Contract
- 2024
SMFL MIRAI Partners Co., Ltd. and Shizen Energy jointly acquired 12 floating solar power plants. The acquired power plants are installed in agricultural reservoirs in the Shikoku, Kansai, Chugoku, and Chubu regions. This was the first instance of acquiring floating solar power plants for both companies. There are approximately 150,000 reservoirs across Japan, and the potential for deploying floating solar facilities nationwide is estimated at around 39 GW (according to the NEDO Renewable Energy White Paper), indicating strong prospects for further expansion.
Joint Acquisition of Six Solar Power Plants
- Generation Capacity
- Total 12,337 kW
- Location
- Five sites in Fukuoka Prefecture, one site in Yamaguchi Prefecture
- Start of Contract
- 2021
SMFL MIRAI Partners Co., Ltd. and Shizen Energy (currently Shizen Operations Asset Management Department) jointly acquired a total of six solar power facilities: five in Fukuoka Prefecture and one in Yamaguchi Prefecture. SMFL MIRAI Partners provides refinancing of existing loans, while Shizen Operations delivers integrated technical asset management and operations and maintenance services for these plants.
